NATIVE dog breeds at risk of extinction could be saved by new research by the Kennel Club and the Animal Health Trust (AHT), which will help breeders tackle high levels of inbreeding that can reduce fertility levels, the KC says.

The level that is thought to be sustainable is 100, but many breeds will fall under this number which can lead to a loss of fertility.
