Nytt beskjentskap for meg.

The Carolina Dog is a wild dog first discovered by Dr Lehr.J. Brisbin. The dog named Horace has attracted his attention. It surprised him that its appearance resembles a dingo. Because of that, they are sometimes called American Dingo, Dixie Dingo or Indian’s Dog.

The unique features of these dogs are very valuable for their survival in swamps and the forests of the Southeastern side of theUnited States. It is medium in length, has a well-developed chest and well-tucked belly.

The dog has an elongated neck, powerful jaws in its head shaped wedge-like, almond eyes and large, very mobile ears. It has a lot of muscles and power for its size. It is incredibly flexible in its movements and this allows it to turn instantly.

Unique to this breed is their fish-hook tail that never slack even in their various moods. The color of their coat is typically a deep red with light beige markings on their shoulders and sides of their muzzles, and even lighter shades on the underside, throat and their chest. It can live for 12 up to 14 years.

The Dixie Dingo is usually a pariah dog. It is not owned by anyone but the dog is ready to accompany anybody on a hunt since it has a well-developed hunting nature although it is not aggressive. It is very strong and capable to survive on its own. Though this dog has always been a free animal in the savannahs, swamps and forests, it has been know that it can adapt easily, be domesticated and makes a rather exceptional pet.

They can be loyal dogs when properly socialized. This dog is very suitable for a family framework as they usually go in packs. It is gentle, bonds and plays easily with children, very clean and not destructive. It also intelligent and learns easily. The dog must think of you as his leader to ensure that the relationship will become successful.

There must be rules and the humans must be the one to make the decisions. The dog will give much importance to its pack therefore may be shy and suspicious of strangers and unfamiliar places. It may also howl at certain noises.

The Carolina Dog is not suggested for those who live in apartment as they prefer to have plenty space. They can live outside if it’s not too cold but they can easily adapt in hot and sunny climates. They should be taken on long daily walks as exercise.

But remember to walk beside or in front of them as in their mind, you are the leader. Bathe the dog only when necessary but brush occasionally as the coat takes good care of itself. The dogs can be registered with the United Kennel Club or American Rare Breed Association.
